We all know Scott Weaver makes amazing toothpick sculptures, solos on the drums, and juggles knives and frisbee, but he is also the star attraction every holiday season for tens of thousands of visitors to his home in Rohnert Park. Each year, he places over 100,000 lights on his home and animates nearly 300 personalities form cartoons, children’s literature, and fairy tales. Last weekend we took the trip to the north bay to see this unbelievable spectacle. We were not disappointed!
Scott has filled his yard, roof and garage (not to mention his neighbors’ yards) with spot-on plywood depictions of familiar and not so familiar characters. Each piece gets drawn and painted four times on pieces of recycled plywood. Some of the highlights for me included all 101 Dalmatians, a twenty-five foot abominable snowman across the street, a giant waterfall with Jungle Book animals, and a Waldo that gets moved around each day.
The whole neighborhood also gets into the spirit as well with made-by-request characters on the lawns, visits from Christmas light covered bicycles and a caroling choir made up of local college students. It’s clear that Scott and his son Tyler have created a magical space for children and adults to experience a undeniable sense of wonder.
Weaver’s Winter Wonderland will be up from 5:30 to 9:30 every night for the rest of the year until the 31st.
Happy holidays from Scott and the Tinkering Studio crew!
