Next Sunday, we’re participating in the last members party with help from rogue artist-in-residence Leslie Henslee from the amazing frankenartmart in the inner richmond. Leslie brought in a bunch of natural objects like bark, moss, sticks, and seeds to make little creatures that move with the power of offset motors and remote control cars.
The natural materials give each creation a real sense of personality since they all move differently. It’s really fun to watch the little critters interact in an environment or arena with each other and other interesting natural elements. About halfway through our prototyping, we put down a thin layer of sand so that we could see the visible evidence of their movements.
We’re still working on this activity but there seems to be something really nice about the juxtaposition of the natural materials and the batteries, motors, and wires. We’ll keep trying things out this week and right now our plan is to bring this stuff out on the floor for a “dress rehearsal” on Friday afternoon!

This looks awesome – your Frankenartmart link might be busted though.
